Ultimate tensile strength of work piece material Solution

STEP 0: Pre-Calculation Summary
Formula Used
Ultimate Tensile Strength = (3.25*Sparking time*Mean Current Setting^(3/2))/Volume of Crater
Sut = (3.25*τs*Im^(3/2))/V
This formula uses 4 Variables
Variables Used
Ultimate Tensile Strength - (Measured in Pascal) - Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTS) is the maximum stress that a material can withstand while being stretched or pulled.
Sparking time - (Measured in Second) - Sparking time is defined as the time for which a spark is sustained.
Mean Current Setting - (Measured in Ampere) - Mean current setting is the current set to mean current value during unconventional machining of EDM.
Volume of Crater - (Measured in Square Meter) - Volume of crater is defined as the Volume of crater made by an electric spark during EDM.
STEP 1: Convert Input(s) to Base Unit
Sparking time: 8 Second --> 8 Second No Conversion Required
Mean Current Setting: 0.5 Ampere --> 0.5 Ampere No Conversion Required
Volume of Crater: 3 Square Millimeter --> 3E-06 Square Meter (Check conversion here)
STEP 2: Evaluate Formula
Substituting Input Values in Formula
Sut = (3.25*τs*Im^(3/2))/V --> (3.25*8*0.5^(3/2))/3E-06
Evaluating ... ...
Sut = 3064129.38514171
STEP 3: Convert Result to Output's Unit
3064129.38514171 Pascal -->3.06412938514171 Newton per Square Millimeter (Check conversion here)
FINAL ANSWER
3.06412938514171 3.064129 Newton per Square Millimeter <-- Ultimate Tensile Strength
(Calculation completed in 00.004 seconds)

What factors affects surface finish during EDM ?

The amount of material removed and the surface finish produced is dependent upon the current in the spark. The material removed by the spark can be assumed to be a crater. The amount removed therefore will depend upon the crater depth, which is directly proportional to the current. Thus as the material removed increases and at the same time the surface finish also decreases. However, decreasing the current in the spark, but increasing its frequency will improve the surface finish in view of the small crater size, but at the same time the material removal rate can be maintained by increasing the frequency.
