Emitter Current Solution

STEP 0: Pre-Calculation Summary
Formula Used
Emitter Current = Base Current+Collector Current
Ie = Ib+Ic
This formula uses 3 Variables
Variables Used
Emitter Current - (Measured in Ampere) - Emitter current is defined as the current flowing through the emitter terminal of a bipolar junction transistor.
Base Current - (Measured in Ampere) - Base Current is the current flowing through the base terminal of a bipolar junction transistor. Base current is typically 1% of emitter or collector current for small signal transistors.
Collector Current - (Measured in Ampere) - Collector current is defined as the current flowing through the collector terminal of a transistor.
STEP 1: Convert Input(s) to Base Unit
Base Current: 0.44 Milliampere --> 0.00044 Ampere (Check conversion here)
Collector Current: 1.1 Milliampere --> 0.0011 Ampere (Check conversion here)
STEP 2: Evaluate Formula
Substituting Input Values in Formula
Ie = Ib+Ic --> 0.00044+0.0011
Evaluating ... ...
Ie = 0.00154
STEP 3: Convert Result to Output's Unit
0.00154 Ampere -->1.54 Milliampere (Check conversion here)
FINAL ANSWER

How do you calculate emitter current?

The current flowing out of the transistor must be equal to the currents flowing into the transistor as the emitter current is given as Ie = Ic + Ib. the current that flows from the emitter to the collector or vice versa is the base current times the DC current gain.

Why is collector current less than emitter current?

If Emitter-Base junction is forward biased and Collector-Base junction is reverse biased, the voltage across the device causes electrons from emitter to flow to collector. In this, electrons pass through P type lightly doped base region and some of the electrons recombine with holes. Therefore, collector current is less than that of emitter current.

How to Calculate Emitter Current?

Emitter Current calculator uses Emitter Current = Base Current+Collector Current to calculate the Emitter Current, Emitter Current is the combination of the collector and the base current combined. The load resistance in this type of transistor configuration has both the collector current and the input current of the base flowing through it. Emitter Current is denoted by Ie symbol.

How to calculate Emitter Current using this online calculator? To use this online calculator for Emitter Current, enter Base Current (Ib) & Collector Current (Ic) and hit the calculate button. Here is how the Emitter Current calculation can be explained with given input values -> 2403.5 = 0.00044+0.0011.

FAQ

What is Emitter Current?
Emitter Current is the combination of the collector and the base current combined. The load resistance in this type of transistor configuration has both the collector current and the input current of the base flowing through it and is represented as Ie = Ib+Ic or Emitter Current = Base Current+Collector Current. Base Current is the current flowing through the base terminal of a bipolar junction transistor. Base current is typically 1% of emitter or collector current for small signal transistors & Collector current is defined as the current flowing through the collector terminal of a transistor.
How to calculate Emitter Current?
Emitter Current is the combination of the collector and the base current combined. The load resistance in this type of transistor configuration has both the collector current and the input current of the base flowing through it is calculated using Emitter Current = Base Current+Collector Current. To calculate Emitter Current, you need Base Current (Ib) & Collector Current (Ic). With our tool, you need to enter the respective value for Base Current & Collector Current and hit the calculate button. You can also select the units (if any) for Input(s) and the Output as well.
