Depth of Machined Surface - (Measured in Meter) - Depth of machined surface is the how deep a surface is machined from the un-machined surface.
STEP 1: Convert Input(s) to Base Unit
Volume of Crater: 3 Square Millimeter --> 3E-06 Square Meter (Check conversion here)
Depth of Machined Surface: 13 Millimeter --> 0.013 Meter (Check conversion here)
STEP 2: Evaluate Formula
Substituting Input Values in Formula
D = sqrt((8*(V-(pi/6)*H^3))/(pi*H)) --> sqrt((8*(3E-06-(pi/6)*0.013^3))/(pi*0.013))
Evaluating ... ...
D = 0.0190345918609689
STEP 3: Convert Result to Output's Unit
0.0190345918609689 Meter -->19.0345918609689 Millimeter (Check conversion here)

What factors affects surface finish during EDM ?

The amount of material removed and the surface finish produced is dependent upon the current in the spark. The material removed by the spark can be assumed to be a crater. The amount removed therefore will depend upon the crater depth, which is directly proportional to the current. Thus as the material removed increases and at the same time the surface finish also decreases. However, decreasing the current in the spark, but increasing its frequency will improve the surface finish in view of the small crater size, but at the same time the material removal rate can be maintained by increasing the frequency.

How to Calculate Diameter of crater?

Diameter of crater calculator uses Larger Diameter = sqrt((8*(Volume of Crater-(pi/6)*Depth of Machined Surface^3))/(pi*Depth of Machined Surface)) to calculate the Larger Diameter, The Diameter of crater formula is defined as the diameter of the crater formed from a single spark from EDM. Larger Diameter is denoted by D symbol.
