Diameter of Circular End of Rocker Arm of Engine Valve Solution

STEP 0: Pre-Calculation Summary
Formula Used
Diameter of Circular End of Rocker Arm = 2*Nominal Diameter
da = 2*DN
This formula uses 2 Variables
Variables Used
Diameter of Circular End of Rocker Arm - (Measured in Meter) - Diameter of Circular End of Rocker Arm is a straight line passing from side to side through the center of the circular end of the rocker arm.
Nominal Diameter - (Measured in Meter) - Nominal Diameter is defined as the mean or average outside diameter of a profile.
STEP 1: Convert Input(s) to Base Unit
Nominal Diameter: 10 Millimeter --> 0.01 Meter (Check conversion here)
STEP 2: Evaluate Formula
Substituting Input Values in Formula
da = 2*DN --> 2*0.01
Evaluating ... ...
da = 0.02
STEP 3: Convert Result to Output's Unit
0.02 Meter -->20 Millimeter (Check conversion here)
FINAL ANSWER
20 Millimeter <-- Diameter of Circular End of Rocker Arm
(Calculation completed in 00.004 seconds)

Engine Valve Motion

The motion of the engine valves is driven by the camshaft of the engine, which contains a series of lobes or cams that serve to create the linear motion of the valve from the rotation of the camshaft. The number of cam lobes on the camshaft is equal to the number of valves in the engine. Regardless of the engine design, the basic movement of the engine valves occurs by the cam riding against a lifter or a tappet that provides a force that presses against the valve stem and compresses the valve spring, thereby removing the spring tension that keeps the valve in the closed position. This movement of the valve stem lifts the valve off the seat in the cylinder head and opens the valve. Once the camshaft rotates further and the cam lobe moves so that the eccentric portion is no longer directly in contact with the lifter or tappet, the spring pressure closes the valve as the valve stem rides on the centric portion of the cam lobe.
