Bond Length Solution

STEP 0: Pre-Calculation Summary
Formula Used
Bond Length = Radius of Mass 1+Radius of Mass 2
Lbond = R1+R2
This formula uses 3 Variables
Variables Used
Bond Length - (Measured in Meter) - Bond Length in a diatomic molecule is the distance between center of two molecules(or two masses).
Radius of Mass 1 - (Measured in Meter) - Radius of mass 1 is a distance of mass 1 from the center of mass.
Radius of Mass 2 - (Measured in Meter) - Radius of Mass 2 is a distance of mass 2 from the center of mass.
STEP 1: Convert Input(s) to Base Unit
Radius of Mass 1: 1.5 Centimeter --> 0.015 Meter (Check conversion here)
Radius of Mass 2: 3 Centimeter --> 0.03 Meter (Check conversion here)
STEP 2: Evaluate Formula
Substituting Input Values in Formula
Lbond = R1+R2 --> 0.015+0.03
Evaluating ... ...
Lbond = 0.045
STEP 3: Convert Result to Output's Unit
0.045 Meter -->4.5 Centimeter (Check conversion here)
FINAL ANSWER
4.5 Centimeter <-- Bond Length

How do we get bond length?

Bond length is the sum of the two radii of rotation (R1 and R2). The distance between the masses, or the bond length, (L) can be considered fixed because the level of vibration in the bond is small compared to the bond length. As the molecule rotates it does so around its COM thus molecule 1, center of mass, and molecule 2 lies on same line. Bond length can be obtained by summation of these two radii.

How to Calculate Bond Length?

Bond Length calculator uses Bond Length = Radius of Mass 1+Radius of Mass 2 to calculate the Bond Length, Bond length is a measure of the distance between two molecules in diatomic system. So if radii of mass1 and mass2 are known, their summation would provide bond length. Bond Length is denoted by Lbond symbol.

How to calculate Bond Length using this online calculator? To use this online calculator for Bond Length, enter Radius of Mass 1 (R1) & Radius of Mass 2 (R2) and hit the calculate button. Here is how the Bond Length calculation can be explained with given input values -> 450 = 0.015+0.03.

FAQ

What is Bond Length?
Bond length is a measure of the distance between two molecules in diatomic system. So if radii of mass1 and mass2 are known, their summation would provide bond length and is represented as Lbond = R1+R2 or Bond Length = Radius of Mass 1+Radius of Mass 2. Radius of mass 1 is a distance of mass 1 from the center of mass & Radius of Mass 2 is a distance of mass 2 from the center of mass.
How to calculate Bond Length?
Bond length is a measure of the distance between two molecules in diatomic system. So if radii of mass1 and mass2 are known, their summation would provide bond length is calculated using Bond Length = Radius of Mass 1+Radius of Mass 2. To calculate Bond Length, you need Radius of Mass 1 (R1) & Radius of Mass 2 (R2). With our tool, you need to enter the respective value for Radius of Mass 1 & Radius of Mass 2 and hit the calculate button. You can also select the units (if any) for Input(s) and the Output as well.
How many ways are there to calculate Bond Length?
In this formula, Bond Length uses Radius of Mass 1 & Radius of Mass 2. We can use 2 other way(s) to calculate the same, which is/are as follows -
  • Bond Length = Radius of Mass 2*(Mass 1+Mass 2)/Mass 1
  • Bond Length = Radius of Mass 2*(Mass 1+Mass 2)/Mass 1
